There are three copy machines inside the Library, and one just outside the library that's available even when the Library is closed. All four machines can make copies, scan, and print; click the tabs on this guide to find out how.
Paper copies and printouts are 5¢ each for black-and-white, 10¢ for color. Scanning is free. You must use your MSM ID card to log in and to pay; the machines do not accept cash. Every new student's ID card is pre-loaded with $2.00. To add more money, you need to connect your card to a PayPal account; see these instructions.
If you're new to MSM, please read through these instructions completely, as well as those for adding funds to your card. They should answer most of your questions, and help get you set up for quick and easy copying when you need it. If you have a phone or tablet, we recommend tapping through these instructions step by step while standing at one of the machines. If you need additional help, or if a machine needs more paper or maintenance, inquire at the circulation desk at the front of the-Library.
Please read, and take to heart, the following notice that is posted near all of the Library's copy machines:
NOTICE: The copyright law of the United States (Title 17, U.S. Code) governs the making of photocopies or other reproductions of copyrighted material. The person using this equipment is responsible for any infringement.
See here for more information about copyright.
The copier will display a screen similar to the image below. Tap your card on the copier's integrated card reader (usually to the left of the screen) to get started.
Enter your MSM credentials, using the same login you use for your MSM email account. (Need password help? See this page.) You will only need to do this the first time you use the machines, to link your ID card. After that, the machine will recognize you automatically when you tap your card.
Choose from the menu the function you want: copy, scan, or print.
After tapping “Scan and Send," you'll see a “Send to Myself” button. Tap this to automatically add your MSM email address to the destination list, and you can begin scanning. If you'd like to send your scan to a different address, choose "New Destination."
To print a document, send it as an attachment from your MSM email account (only!) to: print@msmnyc.edu. Supported file types include pdf, jpg, docx, xls, xlsx, ppt, pptx, pub, rtf, txt, xps, html, and eml. (You'll want to convert your Finale and Sibelius files to one of these formats.)
Then:
The staff at the circulation desk can often help with any problems or questions you have. They can also supply paper and toner, should a machine run out. If machine require a technician's expertise, we will call one in, but it might be a day or two. Meanwhile, please try one of the other machines.
These machines can do a lot. Most people figure out the basics on their own with a little practice, but if you'd like to become a real virtuoso, here's the official user guide from Canon.
